App Membrane Waterproofing
APP (Atactic Polypropylene) membrane waterproofing is a popular method used to waterproof various surfaces, including roofs, basements, and foundations. APP membranes are a type of modified bitumen membrane, which consists of asphalt or bitumen modified with polymers to enhance its properties.
Surface Preparation: The surface to be waterproofed must be clean, smooth, and free of any debris, dust, or contaminants. Any cracks, voids, or uneven areas should be repaired or filled as necessary to ensure a smooth substrate.
Installation of APP Membrane: The APP membrane is rolled out onto the prepared surface and adhered or mechanically fastened in place. The membrane is typically installed in overlapping layers to create a continuous barrier against water penetration.
Heat Application: To activate the adhesive backing of the membrane and ensure proper bonding to the substrate, heat is applied using a propane torch or hot air gun. The heat also helps to soften the membrane, allowing it to conform to the contours of the surface and create a tight seal.
